After Christmas

After Christmas

The gifts are all unwrapped now

The tree stands tall, but bleak,

The voices, laughter, packed house,

Are now just memories.

Another Christmas come and gone,

I wish it could have stayed,

Or lingered a little longer,

And one more memory made.

But now it’s after Christmas,

The house seems strangely quiet,

With all the hurry and hustle

Replaced by gentle sighs.

But as I look upon the star

Still shining on the tree,

I cannot help but still rejoice

For what after Christmas means.

Jesus Christ, God’s own Son

Was born on Christmas Day,

To give us life, give us hope,

Every single day.

He is our Savior and our Lord,

Our precious Bread of Life,

The King of Kings, the Prince of Peace,

The tribe of Judah’s Lion.

He is the bright and morning Star,

The Word, The great I Am,

Our Teacher and Our Shepherd,

The greatest Friend of man.

He is the precious Lamb of God,

The brightly shining Light,

Immanuel, God with us,

Messiah and the Christ.

He is our great Physician,

Our Redeemer who took our place,

The Stone the builders rejected,

Who holds everything in place.

He is Alpha and Omega,

The Beginning and the End,

Our great high Priest and Prophet

Revealing God to man.

Yes, Christmas is a joyful time

But after Christmas we know

The baby in the manger

Is our all, our life, our hope.

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

(Hebrews 4:14-16)
